Weights first or cardio first is an age old question. Some support “weights first” as they believe by doing that, it will maximise the after-burn effect.

However, this is just a gym myth.
This is like talking about whether you should have a piece of cake before dinner or vice versa to see which one is less fattening.

I have no idea whether weights first is more effective when it comes to fat burning.
Personally, I find other orders the same.

Regular gym goers might prefer weights first then cardio.
The reason is very clear – being that cardio takes more energy and stamina. So by the time you reach for your weights, you're too exhausted. And hence this saying of weights first.

For me, I'm pretty chilled and not a gym “purist”. I would place the order depends on how I feel that day. Whatever you do, listen to your body first.
If I didn't sleep well the previous night, I would definitely do cardio first to wake up. And determine whether I would move on to weights afterwards.
This is very important – being fatigued and do weights is very dangerous especially when it comes to free weights – what if you're doing bench press without a spotter and lose grip?

Men like weights first and ladies cardio first. Despite the fact that cardio can prep you into the main workout physically, I think it also preps you mentally, which could be more important to ladies.

One more tip:

When you are used to a mode of workout, let's say weights first then cardio. When you hit plateau and it's time to change your workout. You need to give your body a new stimulant. And simply switching the order of weights and cardio is already a new challenge to your body.

其實,
這個是健身室的謎(myth)
這就好比說,先吃正餐,再吃甜品,或者倒轉,哪一個次序比較不長胖。
是否真的更有效,不得而知。
個人覺得,其實都一樣。

但是一般健身者而言,都比較喜歡先做器械/重力訓練,然後再做帶氧運動。
原因十分簡單,
因為帶氧運動費力,先做帶氧運動的話,去到要做器械時就無精神力量去做了,
所以通常會建議先重力訓練,後帶氧。

我自己本人就沒所謂,一切就當天身體狀況而言。
如果前一天沒睡得好,精神不足,我會一定先做帶氧去提提神,再決定是否繼續做重力訓練。
這一點很重要,精神不足下做重力訓練,由其是自由重量(free weight)是很容易失手發生意外的。

男士通常喜歡先做重力訓練,女士比較喜歡先帶氧,因為帶氧除了是一個熱身準備,同時舒緩情緒,為下一輪重力訓練作心理準備。

另一小貼士,
當你已經習慣先做重力訓練後做帶氧運動,遇到平台期,需要轉一轉運動模式時,
轉帶氧及重力訓練的先後次序,已是一個新模式,對身體來說是一個新挑戰。
