Biography
I am YU Chi Ka (aka Elektra for modelling). I am 22 years old and I am from Hong Kong. I graduated from The University of Hong Kong just a few months ago and I majored Translation (Chi-Eng) and minored Music and Italian. I was having this "fresh graduate" frustration back then and was basically beating myself up for choosing in between continuing modelling and getting a stable graduate job. And sadly, the former one couldn't quite earn me a living and there was one point I almost gave up.
And, the turning point of my life, Asia's Next Top Model 2.
It affirmed my want to pursuit a modelling career and I am determined to make it an international one.
I am not a typical pretty "model" you see in Hong Kong. I have an edgy high fashion face which makes my modelling career a bit difficult. I got so many rejections from local photographers and agencies before AsNTM. I don't blame them as HK market prefers sweet pretty faces. That is why I want to go international. I feel like I don't belong here.
I want to go to London and fulfill my unfinished dream. Few years ago when I was still studying in the UK and I was in London attending auditions at several renowned conservatoires for music courses admission (piano major). I wasn't taken and I ended up doing translation at university. Visions and dreams change along time. But I hope modelling is the one that I will hold onto for a long time until I am too old for it. Now I want to go back to London but for a different purpose. I want to model there like I wanted to study piano there before. I want to walk London Fashion Week. I want the world to see Asian models, another title that I'm carrying, Hong Kong models can shine, can be beautiful, can be inspiring, and can be phenomenal.
This year is going to be life-changing. I have no idea where will modelling take me and offer me after AsNTM. I can only hope,try my best and stay faithful. I will be chasing my dream this year. I hope you will do too. Don't give up no matter what they say but listen to your heart. X
我叫余智嘉(Elektra)。我今年22歲，香港人。我在香港大學主修翻譯，副修音樂及意大利文，剛剛應屆畢業。我都經歷過畢業生必經的沮喪，覺得無方向目標，不知下一步如何是好。我曾經苦惱應該繼續做模特兒還是正正經經做一份有穩定收入的文職。夢想還是麵包?有一段時間我差一點就放棄做模特兒了，因為收入根本太少了。
然後，我的人生轉捩點出現了，Asia's Next Top Model 2。
它令我更肯定要當一個職業模特兒，更令我夢想成為國際職業模特兒。
我不是一般香港常見的漂亮型模特兒(更不是o靚模!)，我的臉孔及風格比較型格，比較貼近High Fashion。所以在香港當模特兒找工作對我來說有點困難。我參加AsNTM前，曾經有很多本地攝影師及模特公司拒絕我合作的請求。我也不惱恨他們，因為是香港的市場需求所致的。因此，我很想走出亞洲，因為我總覺得我不屬於這兒。
我很想去完我的倫敦夢。數年前我在英國留學期間，在倫敦到處考音樂學院(主修鋼琴)。我沒被任何一間錄取，最後回流香港在大學讀翻譯。夢想是會隨時間轉變﹑流動，我希望當國際模特兒的夢想短期內不變，直至到我老到不能再當模特兒。我夢想在英國當模特兒，正如我當日夢想在英國讀音樂。我想踏上London Fashion Week倫敦時裝週的天橋。我想全世界知道亞洲模特，由其是我背負的另一個身份，香港模特，同樣可以發熱發亮，可以很美，可以鼓舞人，啟發其他人，更可以成為主流，登上世界的舞台。

2014年將會是改變我生命的一年。不知道模特兒事業會如何，也不知道我會何去何從。我只能有盼望，繼續努力，用信心看待這一年。這一年，我會繼續努力去追夢。你們也是，不要放棄，不要理會其他世俗人的眼光，專心一意做自己真心愛做的事吧。
